“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation.”

Just minutes ago paralyzed dog Miss Mercy scooted on her knees at top speed to get to me because she was afraid of a noise and was fleeing for safety. I am her safety. I am the one to whom she runs when she doesn’t feel safe. I am the one she trusts to protect her. She doesn’t look to anyone or anything else for protection. She puts her trust in me. Just minutes before she did this, I had put out a prayer request to a small circle of people to ask them to pray for my safety regarding a certain situation. Shortly afterward, a beloved sister in the Lord sent me a simple email pointing me to Psalm 91. Reminding me that just as Miss Mercy comes running to me for safety and protection, that my safety and protection are in the Lord Jesus Christ. That He is the one to whom I must run! The same is true for you! The same is true for us all!

Who is your safety, friend? To what or whom do you run when you’re seeking safety and protection? Do you run to the world? Or do you run to the Lord?

God doesn’t promise us this life will be without its challenges, hardships, hurdles, hurts, dangers, etc. We are living in a lost, hard, broken, and fallen world because of the sins of humankind. But in the Lord Jesus Christ no matter what we face on this earth, we can find everlasting life. And right here on this earth, we can find in Him love, peace, hope, joy, comfort, compassion, wisdom, direction, kindness, tenderness, healing, mercy, and the strength to carry on. Yes, right in the refuge of Christ we can dwell in the safety and promise of His forever reign, His everlasting lordship, His unfathomably beautiful eternal love for those who place their trust in and devote their lives to Him.

Run to the Lord, dear one. Find your safety and protection in His amazingly awesome indescribably wonderful loving forever glorious hold and almighty fold!
