“Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:”  Psalm 103:1-2

“Remember His marvelous works which He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,” Psalm 105:5

“They forgot God their Savior,
Who had done great things in Egypt,” Psalm 106:21

“They soon forgot His works;” Psalm 106:13

Oh, how I love the Psalms! I feel I could never tire of reading them, of being comforted by God through them, of seeing His tender love and mercy in them, and on and on. Always new treasures it seems I find in them. When I pay heed to the Spirit of Christ teaching me as I go along. Like the day He brought to light this message.

About forgetting. About remembering. Why would the Lord tell us not to forget His works? Why would He tell us to remember them? That’s what He does in the verses above, right? And that’s not all! He through the psalmist shows us the Israelites after all the amazingly wonderful things the Lord had done for them forgot. Not just what He had done. They forgot Him. They reaped the rewards of God’s astoundingly awesome goodness and then neglected to glorify Him as Lord and continue to acknowledge His goodness.

Think they’re alone in this? What about you and me? Do we not if we’re honest with ourselves forget to acknowledge God at times? Forget to acknowledge His goodness sometimes? Forget all the stunningly beautiful and glorious things He’s done in our lives beginning with saving us from His wrath and hell and the lake of fire for those of us who have turned from our sins and believed in Jesus as Lord who died on the cross to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead? Forget His goodness from even just hours ago? Take for granted His blessings like right down to the fact He gives us our very next breath?

The Lord is reminding us to love and honor Him, to praise and worship Him, to thank Him and to adore Him, to be consciously grateful for all that He has done and continues to do in our lives. Most of all, we need to be thankful to God that He is Lord!

So tragic, isn’t it, that we need this reminder. Yet the reality is in our humanness we tend to receive our blessings, to thank the Lord for them if we even do that, and to rush onward into the rest of our busy lives.

Let us take the time daily to praise the Lord, to remember His goodness, and to tell others about the Lord and His awesomeness!

Let us praise the Lord, friend, for who He is and all that He has done in our pasts, for all He is doing in our lives in the present, and, most of all, for the fact Jesus Christ is Lord forevermore!
